Palma de Mallorca
Jewel of the Balearic Isles
Majorca is not just for sun, sand, sea and sex, and Palma de Majorca offers a history
and culture much deeper than that of the nearby party beaches to the south of the capital.
The origins of the city date back to the times of the Romans and it prospered in the 13th
and 14th centuries when it was the capital of the Kingdom of Majorca and part of the Crown
of Aragon.
As a busy port-city and capital of Balearic Islands, Palma has a lot to offer from cafés
and museums to shopping and bars. The impressive cathedral at the heart of the city is
sure to stand out, as are the busy and crowded streets. Although the city is located on
the southern coast of Majorca, it doesn’t have a beach as such – but there are plenty of
beaches within a short ride from Palma and pretty much anywhere on the island can be
visited within a couple of hours drive.
